Response from Daryl Melham

This is Mr. Melham’s response – we’re not quite sure what to make of it but we thank for him response and his work on the committee he mentions below.
Dear (name removed),
Thank you for your email outlining your views on the current situation in relation to asylum seekers.
In relation to the specific case you have raised in your email, the Government has appointed retired judge, The Hon Margaret Stone, to review adverse security assessments.
I also note from the ABC report you identified in your email that the mother has chosen for the baby to remain in detention.
Given your level of interest in this matter, you may be interested in knowing that I chaired  the parliamentary Joint Select Committee on Australia’s Detention Centres earlier this year. You should find the transcripts and submissions of great interest.
You would be particularly interested in Recommendations 27 and 28.
I very much appreciate you contacting me on this important matter.
Yours sincerely
Daryl Melham
