So many stories like yours reveal why our refugee policy and treatment of asylum seekers is so unjust. At its core, every single person must be afforded procedural fairness and the opportunity to respond to claims and have those claims reviewed by an independent court. It is shameful that a democratic nation that prides itself on the “fair go” would legally permit individuals to languish in indefinite detention. However, your situation has not been met with silence.

It has been encouraging to see the public response demanding an end to such punitive treatment and the need for greater accountability and transparency. Hopefully, the Australian Government will act to end this injustice.
